The importance of our Breath

“Breathing is the FIRST place not the LAST place one should investigate when any disordered energy presents itself.”
Dr Sheldon Hendler, MD Ph.D. , Medical Researcher Cell Oxygenation

I am a breath educator/therapist and assist people in learning how to breathe correctly, and to support them with their healing.   The information that I share with you here is aimed to give you a broader understanding as to why it is so important to breathe correctly; how incorrect breathing is linked to many illnesses; what causes our healthy breath to change to chronic unhealthy breathing; but best of all how I can assist you in changing your unhealthy breathing patterns to healthy breathing patterns.

We all understand the importance of a healthy life style such as eating a healthy diet and doing regular exercise and how beneficial this is to our health, but do you know just how important your breath is? We take our breath for granted, its an automatic process, therefore most of us don’t give much thought to it.

However poor breathing habits are epidemic today and most people are not even aware that they breathe incorrectly. Poor breathing patterns such as upper chest breathing or breathing too fast and shallow leads to oxygen deficiency and this is the root cause for most disease, as incorrect breathing decreases the oxygen intake to our body’s cells.

Every cell in our body needs oxygen to survive. If we were to stop breathing we would die. This is exactly what happens to the cells of our body when they are starved of oxygen, they deteriorate and eventually die. This is what happens to us if we have chronic poor breathing habits.

This understanding of how our breathing effects our health has been known for thousands of years, and more recently scientific studies are beginning to realize this ancient wisdom.

Incorrect breathing, and oxygen shortage in the human body, has been linked to many major illness’s, including :

  • Auto immune diseases : polymyalgia rheumatica,; hashimotos’s thyroiditis; Chronic fatigue ; Myalgic Encephalopathy; Fibromyalgia; Endometriosis; Lupus; and many more………
  • Heart conditions,
  • Heart palpitations
  • Cancer,
  • fatigue
  • Ashma
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Digestion and elimination problems,
  • Respiratory disease,
  • Inflamed, swollen and aching joints,
  • Sinus problems,
  • Yeast infections and even
  • Sexual dysfunction.
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • General body weakness
  • Sleep disorders
  • Suppression/over active immune system
  • Forgetfulness, poor concentration and memory loss
  • Hangover type feeling
  • Damaged cell growth
  • Excessive amounts of colds and infections.
  • Irritability
  • Overall ill-health

AND the list goes on…….

Oxygen is our primary source of energy. Oxygen is essential for our brain function. Oxygen has a calming effect on our mind and nervous system. Oxygen is required for absorption of vitamins , minerals and other essential nutrients.

“…Insufficient oxygen means insufficient biological energy, that can result in anything from mild fatigue to life threatening disease. The link beweeen insufficient oxygen and disease has now been firmly established. The more oxygen we have in our system, the more energy we produce.” W. Spencer Way: Journal of the American Association of Physicians.

In 1931 Dr Otto Heinrich Warburg Two-time Nobel Laureate Winner of the Nobel Prize for Cancer Research discovered that, cancer, viruses, bacteria and fungi cannot survive in an oxygen rich environment.

“Cancer is a condition within the body where the oxidation has become so depleted that the body cells have degenerated beyond physiological control,”  Dr Wendell Hendricks

I have worked with clients with Cancer, working on this same principle as i’ve shared above. By bringing more oxygen into the body through breathing correctly and other breathing techniques, creates an oxygen rich environment, were disease such as cancer cannot survive. The results are remarkable. I can gratefully say that I have healed myself though c.f/m.e in this way. (click HERE for the story of my healing experience)

I can assist you in changing your poor breathing habits through breath education, awareness and practice.

bbbbbAs a baby we have a healthy relaxed belly breath, so how and when did this all change?

Our breathing may become unhealthy for many reasons, such as experiencing a traumatic or fearful event , living in a fearful environment, from our belief systems, from breath restriction following surgery, from the tight clothes we wear, from being on the computer for hours at a time (yes even day to day things we do have an effect of changing our breath, check it out next time you are on the computer). Stress also has a major impact on our breathing and Dr Muntz, a renowned Molecular Biologist, also revealed that both physical and emotional stress rob the body of huge amounts of much-needed oxygen.

There really are so many factors that can create poor breathing habits. We may not be aware of these changes but our body is. Health deterioration may start gradually with a general feeling of ill-health or fatigue, and as our body becomes more and more oxygen deprived, other illness’s and diseases begin to emerge.

Townsend Letter for Doctors: “Cells undergoing partial oxygen starvation send out tiny panic signals which are collectively felt in the body as a continuous vague sensation of uneasiness, dread or disaster. This low level generalized warning tends to get tuned out as mere “background noise” by the individual experiencing it. Or, it is attributed to other sources of uneasiness….” People rarely suspect that the constant vague feelings of helplessness, fatigue….uneasiness are symptoms of cellular oxygen deprivation.”

However with knowledge , awareness and practice we can learn to breath correctly again and bring this much needed oxygen back into every cell of our being, enabling us to have health and vitality . Our body wants to be well and is incredible at healing itself.

“In a healthy body there is no room for disease. Disease results from an absence of health.” Udo Erasmus PhD
